Nine people died on the spot, while eight others sustained various degrees of injuries in a motor accident at Gomoa Potsin Junction near Winneba on Friday.

The Winneba District Motor Traffic and Transport Unit Station officer, Police Chief Inspector Anthony Castro Odoom, made this known to journalists on Saturday.

He said a KIA bus with registration Number GW 8594-12 loaded with a number of cartons of frozen fish from Tema to Winneba, had a head-on-collision with a Benz bus with registration Number GW 7252-14, which was travelling from Takoradi to Accra.

According to Chief Inspector Odoom, the KIA driver whose name was given as only Azumah was among those who died.

He said the injured persons had been rushed to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for treatment while the unidentified bodies have been deposited at the mortuary.

Chief Inspector Odoom said the police were investigating the cause of the accident.
