All 21 aspirants contesting various executive positions within the Convention People’s Party (CPP) have been cleared by the vetting committee of the party.
This therefore clears the way for the National Congress of the party scheduled to take place on Friday the 18th and Saturday, 19th September at the Sunyani polytechnic campus.

A former National chairman of the party, Professor Edmund Delle is contesting the position of national Chairman unopposed.
He believes he can coordinate efforts to enable the CPP become a very formidable force in the 2016 general elections.
Three of the 21 contestants are women who are contesting for the National Women’s Organizer and Vice National Chairman positions respectively.
A member of the vetting committee, Dede Amanor-Wilks in an interview with Citi News said she was optimistic of a successful congress,
“All 21 candidates were vetted on Monday and Tuesday of this week. All 21 distinguished themselves in various ways there were some tough questions though but all 21 were approved to stand for elections in various capacities on Saturday in Sunyani,” she said.
About 2,500 delegates from all 10 regions across the country are expected to take part in the congress.
The only Member of Parliament for the CPP after the 2008 elections, Samia Nkrumah lost her Jomoro seat in 2012 to the current minister of energy, Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah.
Miss Samia has meanwhile revealed her intention to contest as the party’s flagbearer in the 2016 general elections.
The CPP is also engaging in discussions with the People’s National Convention (PNC) over plans to merge both parties into a single one.
