What started as confrontation between some matured students of the University of Ghana, Legon and school authorities degenerated into massive confusion and chaos on Saturday.

Eyewitnesses say the hostilities started after school authorities prevented some 1,000 matured students from writing an examination scheduled for Saturday.

The students had travelled from various parts of the country to Accra to write the paper.

“They say they will not allow us to write the paper even though we have paid to write,” one angry student told Citi News.

The students claimed that despite making an initial payment of one GHC130 each to register for the paper, school authorities have been demanding some GHC 300 more.

“What they are doing is not fair,” Tina, one of the affected students, said. “How can we travel all the way here only to be told we will not be allowed to write the exams?”

Attempts to reach authorities of the nation’s premier university for their comments have been unsuccessful.
