TEDx Accra 2016 to host First African Innovations Awards

Organizers of the TEDx Accra have announced the opening of application for the African Innovations Awards (AIA). The AIA seeks to inspire young people between the ages of 18 and 40 and are believed to be engaging in ventures to improve the lives of people.

Areas of focus include; Education, Science & Technology; Agricultural/Agribusiness; Healthcare and Energy.

The awards ceremony, the first to be organized, is scheduled to take come off on the 9th of April 2016, will form part of the 2nd edition of TEDx Accra to be held in the nation’s capital, Accra.

Organizers say the competition will, “explore cutting-edge ideas, tools, information and technologies that can help to improve the lives of people on the African continent.”

Interested persons could tender in their applications from Tuesday, September 1, 2015 to Monday November 30, 2015.

After submission, selection partners will choose 15 innovative ideas, 3 from each category to contest for the award during the 15 minutes presentation to a panel of judges at the African Innovations Demonstration Talk during the week of TEDxAccra 2016.

The criteria to be considered for selection include; Originality,Marketability, Scalability and Social impact. Others are; Scientific/Technical aspects, Gender and disability as well as Sustainable Development.

All five winners, in each category will receive $5000 each and other prizes from sponsors. In addition, all the 15 finalists will receive one (1) year development entrepreneurial module training.
