A veteran politician, Professor Edmund Delle has commended President Mahama for his resilience in managing Ghana’s economy despite the many socio-economic challenges.

Both local and international economic factors, have conspired to force government to enter into a 3-year deal with International Monetary Fund (IMF), after the cedi fell sharply, inflation rose to alarming proportions, among many other issues.

The prices of two of Ghana’s major income earners; gold and oil, fell sharply to all time lows and forced government to even revise the 2015 budget downwards.

“I think he is the president that has had the toughest presidency that we had ever had but I think he is resilient, any other person under the crisis could have easily broken down,” he said.

Speaking on the ‘Time with the Legends’ segment on the Citi Breakfast Show, Prof. Delle attributed the situation to the current times the country finds itself in.

Professor Delle who is also contesting as the Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) however raised concerns about the limited use of experienced hands in the governance system.

According to him, some of the challenges the Mahama-led administration is facing is because there are too many inexperienced people in his team.

“Young people are very ambitious people they have the knowledge and they don’t have experience and we [elderly] have seen it all, so we can caution them,” he said.

Professor Delle is returning to contest the Chairmanship position after eight years of withdrawing from active politics.
