FCP Premier League Week 30: AshGold crowned, Olympics, Lions sink

The 2014/2015 First Capital Plus Premier League ended over the weekend with AshGold being crowned as winners after a 19-year wait for the title.

The newly crowned Ghanaian champions, however, tasted defeat at the hands of Great Olympics who rallied from a goal down to win 2-1 at home.

Osei Baffour got Ashgold the lead but two goals from Agbesi Dotse in the dying minutes saw Olympics stage a comeback but the result was too little too late to save them from going down.

WAFA held their nerves to hold out Accra Hearts of Oak to a 0-0 score line and most importantly, preserve their status in the First Capital Plus Premier League.

Medeama, who were also at risk of going down, took care of business by defeating visiting Inter Allies by a 2-1. Benjamin Batture scored twice for the home side while Allies benefitted from an own goal from Evans Quao Bechem United beat already relegated B.A.

United by 4 goals to 1. Yaw Anol, Opoku Patrick, Ernest Baffour and Nyame John all scored for Bechem while Alex Asamoah a consolation for BA United.

Hasaacas finished the league on 7th position with 42 points after defeating Liberty Professionals 2-1 at the Dansoman Park.

Kojo Poku and Ibrahim Sulemana did the damage at the Dansoman Park for the visitors while Baba Zakari got a goal for Liberty.

Berekum Chelsea beat Wa All Stars 2-1 to finish third. Kofi Owusu scored a brace that saw him win the goal king award while Kweku Asuandzie Baffoe got the consolation for All Stars. Asante Kotoko put their recent off the field challenges behind them to thump Aduana Stars 4-0.

Owusu Jackson got a brace, with Richard Oti and Obed Owuso adding a goal each.

The game of the weekend between New Edubiase and Hearts of Lions ended with Edubiase winning by 4 goals to 2.

Nuhu Fuseine and Bernard Ofori got a brace each while Tanko Mohammed and Muntaka Osman halved the score line. The win maintained Edubaise’s status in the league while Lions went down to division 1.
