About 800 Ghanaian students and technicians have been offered scholarships to further their education in China within the past 10 months.

Madam Sun Baohong, Chinese Ambassador in Ghana disclosed this at Awutu Bereku when, she, in collaboration with Madam Hannah Tetteh, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the chiefs of the Awutu and Senya Bereku Traditional Areas, planted trees to symbolize the official commencement of expansion work on a three-storey building project for the Awutu Bereku Junior High School.

Ambassador Baohong disclosed that 22 more Ghanaians would soon be leaving the country for China to attend a training course on Maternal Health Care Service.

She indicated that it formed part of the more than 650 officials and technicians who have so far benefited from the training programme this year.

She also mentioned the New Century Career Training Institute expansion project being held at the campus of the University of Health and Allied Science in Ho, as one of the numerous projects over the years by the government of China.

Madam Baohong stated further that the Chinese Embassy had aided two China-Ghana Friendship Information Communication Technology (ICT) Laboratories in the Volta, Upper West Regions and another one is currently under construction in the Upper East Region.

She gave the assurance that China was committed to further promote the China-Ghana Traditional Friendship, and to deepen bilateral co-operation.

On behalf of the Awutu and Senya Traditional Councils and the entire people of the area, Madam Tetteh who is also the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya, expressed their profound appreciation to the Chinese Government for its immense contributions towards the socio-economic, cultural, and particularly educational development of the country.

She called for more support from the Government of China through her dynamic and hardworking Ambassador.

The Foreign Minister also called on the Chiefs and people of Awutu to co-operate with the management and workers of the Chinese Construction Company working on the project, to ensure its speedy and effective execution.

Madam Tetteh was hopeful that the facility would go a long way to enhance education in Awutu and the surrounding communities in the coming years, because students in the area would be able to compete favourably with their counterparts in the cities.

She, therefore, urged parents and guardians in the area to invest in the education of their children, and encourage them to study hard.
