Dr. Edward Omane Boamah , Ghana’s Information minister has revealed that the government of Ghana has setup a national Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) to address all cyber security related crimes and problems in the country.

“Government is increasingly becoming concerned about the numerous challenges that come with ICT. We are aware ICT comes with immense impacts which are transforming our economy. However , it has some adverse effects which if not properly handled, could be disastrous for the entire community, Ghana and the world at large. This is why we have set up the Computer Emergency Response Team,” the minister noted.

Dr. Boamah who had earlier commissioned similar eICT centers at Lassie Tuolu in the Wa West District and in Nandom, all in the Upper West region said “the Mahama led government is committed to training critical human resource through ICT to propel the country in its development agenda hence, the need to adopt pragmatic strategies that will lessen the challenges that come with it”.

He explained that the completion of the three facilities brings the number of eICT to 21 which were constructed by the Mahama-led administration within the past one year, adding “beyond the completion of the 21, the ministry of communication has deployed 4th Generation Networks across the country to enhance effective communication among MDAs.”

A National Data Center according to the minister is also under construction to provide a single shared computing and storage platform for all MDAs and the private sector.
