The Eastern Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is determined to secure fifty percent of votes in the region in the 2016 general election.

The statement comes on the back of comments by the presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Akuffo Addo blaming the NDC of engaging in tribal campaigns following an ambitious aim of the party to obtain 50 percent of the votes in the region.

But speaking to Citi News, the Eastern Regional Secretary of the NDC, Oliver Kevor accused the NPP of rather engaging in tribal politics regarding appointments executives.

He however added that the NDC will remain focused on its 50-50 target in the region.

“Between 2001 and 2009 all the appointments made from the Eastern region has been from people from a particular ethnic group, which is Akan. On the contrary, if you look at the NDC, within the same period, we have made appointments from major ethnic groups in the region, Krobos, Ewes among others… it will never be sensible for anybody to think we are raging a tribal campaign targeted at non-Akans within the region,”  he said.
