The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has pledged to invest more resources to create the right environment for teaching and learning in schools.

Kojo Bonsu, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, said the assembly would ensure that the more than 500 basic schools in the metropolis are supplied with furniture and provided with well-equipped libraries.

This would be done alongside the refurbishment and construction of additional classrooms to create space for all children of school-going age to be enrolled.

He said the formative years of the child are critical to what they would likely grow to achieve in the future and asked stakeholders to work together to assure them of solid education foundation.

Officials at the Metropolitan Office of the Ghana Education Service during the day toured a number of schools to welcome the fresh pupils.

They were led by Mr. Alexander Attah-Asante, the Metropolitan Director of Education, as they donated some gifts including books and confectionery to the children.

Sokoban Methodist Primary “A” and “B”, Asem cluster of schools, Aprabon M/A, Asuoyeboa M/A, and the K.O. Methodist Basic Schools were among the schools visited.

While Mr. Bonsu urged the school authorities to assist the pupils to uphold the values of discipline, hardwork, humility and honesty; Mr. Attah-Asante said he found the enthusiasm of the children refreshing and urged them to take their studies seriously.
