An Accra circuit court on Tuesday granted Nancy Agbertey, an unemployed woman, bail in the sum of GHȼ10,000.00 with one surety on four counts of stealing and two counts of forgery.
The accused pleaded not guilty to all charges and was granted bail by the court, presided over by Mrs Eva Bannerman, to reappear on September 9.
[contextly_sidebar id=”LLVq8ZR0haP210BSlqrwq5kSxFKI4Kx6″]Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Francis Tassin told the court that the complainant is the Head of Financial Crime Control, Stanbic Bank.
He said in the year 2014, the accused person worked with the bank at the North Industrial Area Branch as a national service personnel and her duties included helping customers to fill request forms for ATM cards.
He said she completed her service on July 31, the same year, but in the month of June the same year, the accused person filled an ATM request form and procured three ATM cards on the account of three customers of the bank.
Chief Inspector Tassin said the customers had not requested for ATM cards but the accused person filled the forms in their names and forged their signatures to procure those cards, which were linked to their bank accounts.
The Prosecution said between June and July, 2014, the accused person used the ATM cards to withdraw GH₵500.00 from the first account, GH₵5,500.00 from the second account and GH₵ 2,100.00 from the third account.
He said after the withdrawal, an SMS banking alert system prompted the customers about the illegal withdrawal.
“The affected customers lodged a complaint with the bank and internal investigations in the bank revealed that the accused person was captured on a CCTV camera at the time of the withdrawal,” he said.
He said a complaint was lodged at the Kaneshie Police Station leading to the arrest of the accused person on October 28, 2014 and she admitted the offence.
