Despite scoring on his second AC Milan debut, Mario Balotelli was still unable to avoid controversy, as he was told by manager Sinisa Mihajlovic that he needs to lose weight.
Balotelli scored one, set up another and won a penalty in Milan’s 3-2 friendly win over fourth division side Modena on Thursday, but that wasn’t enough for his boss.
“He’s not played for a while and he still has to improve,” Mihajlovic told La Gazzetta dello Sport, via the Telegraph.
“He’s training well and his physical tests are satisfactory, but he’s three kilogrammes overweight: he’s on a diet and when he’s ready he will play.”
The Italian faces a race to prove his fitness if he wants to make the side for Milan’s next match, away to rivals Inter on September 13.
