The National Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Samia Nkrumah has backed the decision by veteran politician and lecturer, Professor Edmund Delle to contest as the party’s Chairman in the upcoming national congress.

According to Samia, the move will facilitate the merger talks between the CPP and the People’s National Convention (PNC).

[contextly_sidebar id=”HWX7kcDEljWoaKgPStRkCZsdWWGEGaMC”]This she said will also increase the party’s chances of securing victory in the 2016 general elections.

Professor Delle who returns to active politics after an eight-year break, believes his candidature will help turn the fortunes of the CPP around and enable the party wrestle power from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2016.

Samia Nkrumah in an interview with Citi News further revealed that the cordial relationship between herself and Professor Delle will help deepen the unity within the CPP.

“I am very happy that hopefully the incoming Chairman Professor Delle will continue with the merger plan, we are on very good terms, we have exchanged notes,…this will be one of the few times that an outgoing Chairperson that is myself and the incoming Chairman, are on very good talking terms, so the CPP is assured of a sense of unity,” she said.

She also reiterated her plans of contesting the flagbearership position.

“…For me to control the flagbearership of the CPP,…2016 is a very important year for us and we have to make sure we have the right combination of leadership at the helm of the party,” she said.

Samia Nkrumah further criticized what she referred to as the control of the country’s resources by foreigners, arguing that it has contributed to Ghana’s current economic hardship.
