The First National Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Freddie Blay, says his reputation has been badly tarnished by the brouhaha over an alleged diversion of funds involving him and the party’s National Treasurer, Abankwa Yeboah.

The two, have been accused of operating a secret NPP account at Ecobank against the party’s laid down procedures by an NPP Youth activist, Baah Acheamfour.

The matter has since become a subject of police investigations after the said youth activist lodged a complaint at the Criminal Investigations Department, CID.

[contextly_sidebar id=”Y4QJJwCCVokWSK4k3SmomJGL13zt1ocD”]The two accused persons have since denied any wrongdoing, as investigations into the matter are also ongoing by a sub-committee in the NPP.

In a letter Freddy Blay wrote to the National Executive Council, he explained that the said account has existed for years.

The Akufo-Addo, Prempeh and Co. Chambers who wrote the letter on behalf of Mr Blay said, he had not breached any party regulation by being a signatory to the party’s Ecobank account, which has existed for nearly twelve years.

He debunked claims that the account was a secret one, insisting he acted accordingly, with the party’s National Treasurer who is mandated to carry out some transactions on the said account.

The said account is said to have over GHc5 million in it, for various party activities including the Talensi by-election.

The release of the statement according to Mr. Freddie Blay’s lawyers is also to inform the Ghana Police Service on the full facts of the matter.
