The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has sanctioned its staff who sold presidential nomination forms to one, George Boateng who is seeking to challenge President Mahama for the flagbearersip slot.

George Boateng last Monday picked up presidential nomination forms to contest President Mahama, but NDC’S General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia said per his records, the party hasn’t given out any nomination forms to Mr Boateng.

“We indicated that the forms must be picked from the General Secretary of the party. Since we announced the guidelines, I’m pleased to inform you that this is the first time any candidate has approached my office to pick nomination forms [referring to President Mahama’s forms].” he said.

He was speaking to party supporters who accompanied the Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur to pick up nomination forms on behalf of the President.

Asiedu Nketia announced that the party has sanctioned the party’s accountant and administrator who supposedly sold the forms to Mr Boateng.

“Meanwhile since our staff has been mentioned in this whole saga, we have taken firm administrative measures against them. So those members of our staff who were pretending to be General Secretaries have been sanctioned and you will not see them in this office working again.”

Explaining the procedure to the supporters, Asiedu Nketia said forms could only be sold out after they have been embossed with the “party’s official seal” by the General Secretary.

“My attention was drawn to the fact that somebody who claimed to be a prospective presidential candidate was in the office here looking for the opportunity to pick forms. This information came through the accountant. Immediately I indicated to the accountant that he has no business dealing with presidential nomination forms. He is not even an elected member of the NDC that is the reason why he does not participate in our meetings at any level.”

According to him, the forms sold to George Boateng were a draft copy.

George Boateng is mentally ill

Meanwhile, Asiedu Nketia has reiterated his stance that Mr Boateng is mentally ill, because he does not meet the party’s “eligibility criteria.”

“We are also mindful of the fact that beyond satisfying our party’s constitution, any candidate that we select will have to satisfy the national constitution and there is an eligibility criteria. Any person who would be admitted to file as a presidential candidate must be a person with sound mind. Even though this is not found in our guidelines, it is implied,” he said.
