A Youth Activist of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Baah Acheamfour, has confirmed to Citi News that he lodged the complaint at the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) about the alleged diversion of party funds by some national executives.

According to him, he took the decision because the the wanton dissipation of party funds, had to stop.

[contextly_sidebar id=”uv1XXS8044Dyw5PaqoyB8sb1kqSKn7HW”]The CID has since written letters to invite the First Vice Chairman of NPP Freddie Blay and the National Treasurer Kwabena Amankwah Yeboah, for questioning.

However, Mr. Freddie Blay is reported to have turned down the invitation, while the National Treasurer of the party, has also denied misappropriating any funds in an earlier interview on Eyewitness News.

Speaking to Citi News, Baah Acheamfour, the complainant in the matter, said he would ensure that “corrupt officials in the NPP are exposed.”

“… I picked information that a secret account has been opened at Ecobank Trust Towers branch and that Mr. Freddie Blay and Abankwa, the national NPP Treasurer are the signatories to that account. I know and I have gone through my party’s constitution and there is nowhere in the constitution that the National Treasurer or the First Vice is mandated to open an account in the name of the party. GHc5.2 million was paid into the account, which was the party’s hard-earned money, and out of that, about 5.1 million cedis has been withdrawn.” he alleged.

Baah Acheamfour has been accused of championing this course for the party’s Chairman Paul Afoko, against another faction in the NPP, but he insisted his actions have nothing to do with perceived factionalism in the party.

“Since Paul Afoko was elected the National Chairman, I have never met Paul Afoko personally. I met Kwabena Agyepong once after a radio show when he called to meet him based on certain comments I had made that he was not happy about; and since then I have never seen him so I do not know where this issue of tagging Acheamfour to Kwabena Agyepong and Paul Afoko is coming from. I know it is the usual culture of tagging people just to lose the substance of the issues… The issues being raised must be looked into” he stressed.
