The National Health Insurance Authority, NHIA is developing a mobile application, which will give NHIS subscribers information on drugs and health services covered by the scheme.

This is according to the Acting Chief Executive of the Authority, Nathaniel Otoo.

There have been complaints by some subscribers that some NHIS accredited health facilities deny them some services even when their conditions or drugs are covered under the scheme.

This usually leaves some subscribers with no option than to pay for the services rendered.

[contextly_sidebar id=”pWn2RJqHqh2kKCNzdMvy4wA9cw7WlHCC”]Speaking at a news conference in Accra, Acting Chief Executive of the Authority, Nathaniel Otoo, says the new mobile application will give subscribers the knowledge on services are covered by the scheme.

“The staff that we want to deploy to the health facilities are going to be equipped with a feedback mechanism where at any point when any of our members shows up, and they don’t get the services they expect, they will lodge that complaint into our system through a mobile application; it will aggregate and then we would start talking and dealing with the health provider concerned”.

“The things that we want to do in addition to many is to put power in the hands of our members because in healthcare, the party who is the healthcare professional has more information than the patient; and sometimes the patient is not able to negotiate and to seek their rights. We want to do, is to create a mobile application where members can query whether a medicine, a lab test or any other service is on the list or not”.
