The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), has presented a cheque of GHc 10, 000 to the National Kidney Foundation to be used by the Renal Dialysis Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
Presenting the cheque, Ms Annie Anipa, Assistant Commissioner in charge of Public Affairs, said the support to the unit was part of the organisation’s social corporate responsibility.
According to her, the unit has provided tremendous support to staff of the GRA since the well-being of workers is a priority to management.
She said the amount being presented was contributions from staff and donations from other sources to support the unit to deliver quality health care services to patient.
Dr. Charlotte Osafo, Head of the Unit, was full of praise for the GRA for the support.
She expressed the hope that with support from public-spirited organisations, the unit would become a place of excellence to enhance quality health care.
Dr. Osafo appealed to individuals and corporate organisations to come to the aid of the unit to save lives.
Reverend Albert Okpoti Botchway, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Korle-Bu, said currently the unit has about 180 patients on dialysis.
He urged the public to take good care of themselves since treatment of dialysis was expensive.
He said the hospital now has a unit that perform transplant of organs, adding that very soon the hospital would partner organisations to provide facilities to ensure quality health care.
