An aide to the Northern Regional Minister, Dramani Ecomog has condemned the vandalization of some properties belonging to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Damongo constituency.
Some disgruntled members of NDC youth group called Friends of Alhaji Muniru (FOAM), on Monday went on a demonstration and destroyed some items in the party office.
This was in response to Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna’s withdrawal from the Damongo Parliamentary race for unknown reasons.
The group’s leadership in a petition asked Alhaji Limuna to rescind his decision and pick up nomination forms and contest.
They have further threatened to boycott the 2016 general elections if their preferred candidate downplays their request.
The Minister’s aide, Dramani Ecomog in a Citi News interview condemned the group’s behaviour.
He described Alhaji Limuna as a peace-loving and development oriented politician, who should not be associated with violence.

Dramani Ecomog explained the Minister’s decision to pullout from the race was “strategic.”
“In fact he had consulted these individuals who put themselves together and called themselves Friends of Alhaji Muniru when he came to this decision and indeed he went on PAD Fm in Damongo and craved their indulgence to accept the decision no matter how difficult it will be for them.”
According to Ecomog, Alhaji Limuna’s move is part of the NDC’s grand agenda to win more seats in the Northern Region in 2016.
“I do know that these are a disappointed group of people, they are disgruntled and their action may be acceptable to some extent but if you ask me their vandalization was unnecessary. It could have been peaceful.”
He however impressed upon leadership of the NDC at all levels to immediately resolve the problem in Damongo.
