A Ghanaian filmmaker, Kofi Yeboah, has disclosed plans to produce a movie based on the tragic story of popular Highlife musician Gemann.

Gemann, born Nana Akwasi Agyemang, rose to fame as a phenomenal entertainer. His music and dancing prowess earned him the title “Michael Jackson of Ghana.”

Gemann’s hit song Highlife in G-major became an instant hit and continues to be enjoyed even in recent times.

While he enjoyed his fame, little did Gemann know his life was going to take a heartbreaking turn.

In 1995 he shot and killed a taxi driver at Dome in Accra after disagreements over payment of taxi fare. He was however granted a  pardon on the 9th of Jan, 2009 by President John Agyekum Kuffour.

After his release from prison, he’s become a pastor, teacher, an international evangelist, gospel artiste/songwriter and a Christian music producer, with his own recording label and a multi-media outfit – Christian Entertainment company (GODSBIZ).

According to Kofi Yeboah, he hopes to draw people’s attention to anger and how it can mess up a promising life and career, with Gemann’s story.

“I will write a script and use him as the main cast (lead character). I promise it will become a blockbuster movie that can be used to educate, especially, our celebrities to caution their temper as public figures and role models.”
