President John Mahama has said he is “gutted” by the death of the late Ghanaian Times newspaper presidential correspondent, Samuel Nuamah.

Mr Nuamah died in an accident involving the presidential press corps on August 20, 2015 while returning from an assignment in Ho in the Volta Region.

[contextly_sidebar id=”imsGd3NA5ZzYYdE8CBW0FsUn7jh6C13p”]The president led a high powered delegation from the Flagstaff house to the one-week commemoration service of the late journalist held at the Ghana International Press Centre here in Accra.

This is the first time President Mahama has made any comment on the death of Samuel Nuamah. President Mahama who signed the book of condolence wrote “Samuel I’m so gutted by your death, 6 years of dedicated service in my office and it had to end like this… Fare thee well.”

Family members, scores of journalists, colleagues and friends of Mr. Nuamah were all in attendance at the commemoration. Mother of the deceased Mrs. Georgina Opoku described him as the rock of the family saying “Sammy is the breadwinner of the family, because his father and I are pensioners”.

Nuamah will be buried on September 17 , 2015.

Brother of the deceased Emmanuel Asamoah who confirmed this to Citi News said : “the place of the ceremony is at the state house, and then we will bury him at the Osu cemetery.”
