An Accra Fast Track High Court has ruled against the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) over the payment of conversion difference by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC).

The court also ruled against the National Labour Commission’s (NLC) earlier directive to the FWSC asking them to pay the conversion difference to members of the GMA.

On May 7, 2013, the NLC issued a directive to the FWSC to restore the conversion difference of members of the GMA who work in public health facilities.

The FWSC; dissatisfied and aggrieved by the directive, on 6th June, 2013 filed an application at the Fast Track High Court seeking a judicial review to quash the directive.

Speaking to Citi News, the Head of Legal Services at the FWSC, Augustine Ahaney maintained that the GMA did not deserve any convention difference.

According to him, the Commission was determined not to pay the conversion difference to the GMA members adding that “people who deserve the conversion difference are being accordingly paid.”

Mr. Ahaney recalled that the NLC’s ruling in favour of the GMA was unacceptable for which reason the Commission proceeded to court.
