One of Ghana’s longest serving Members of Parliament, E.T Mensah has dismissed reports that he has decided not to contest in the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary primaries.

[contextly_sidebar id=”RZ00IBGDzT3QYPQzbVaZLC4oXCssBPiA”]E.T Mensah who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo Prampram Constituency, said he has not told anyone that he is not contesting.

This is in response to rumors that the parliamentary veteran will not be contesting in the primaries.

“I am contesting the Ningo Prampram seat. I have not spoken anywhere, I have not said that to anybody,” he told Richard Sky on Eyewitness News.

He also said that if he were to hand over, he would hand over one of the people who have worked with him for a long time.

“The rumor is that I told a couple of guys that I would hand over to them. If I am going to hand over to anybody it would be to one of us who have been in the trenches all this while; not to one of the new ones.”

E.T Mensah added that he is not tired yet and if anyone wants to contest the seat they should focus on doing so.

“It doesn’t lie in anybody’s mouth to say I am tired. In other jurisdictions people stay in parliament for over thirty years. If anybody wants to contest they have the right to do so. Since I started going to parliament it was just once that I went unopposed.

E.T Mensah has been MP for Ningo Prampram since 1996 on the ticket of NDC.

He will face fierce opposition from  presidential staffer Samuel George Nartey in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.
