The Minister of the Interior has on the advice of the Volta Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument renewed the Curfew hours imposed on Alavanyo and Nkonya Townships from 6:00pm to 6:00am effective Friday 28th August, 2015.
In view of the District Level Elections, the Curfew hours for only Tuesday, 1st September 2015 will be observed from 7:00pm to 6:00am.
[contextly_sidebar id=”8NMUUH9AHfp3GL0YavPRQUvXN4jUDFzM”]A statement issued by the Ministry indicated that “Government continues to express its appreciation to the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, Youth and people of the area for their efforts in ensuring peace in the area and urges them to use the established mechanisms for the resolution of all their conflicts and disputes.”
Meanwhile, Government has banned the carrying of arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons in the two towns.
“Any person found with anyarms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,” the statement indicated.
The Nkonya and Alavanyo towns have been at each other’s throat for sometime now.
These conflicts have sometimes led to the death of some residents in both towns.
This has compelled the Ministry to on several occasions impose a curfew on both towns to resolce the challenge but the problem persists.
