A group calling itself the Concerned NDC Members in the Volta Region has petitioned the leadership of the party over extra charges new entrants in the upcoming primaries in the region would have to pay.
The NDC has pegged nomination and filing forms for males at GH¢1,000 and GH¢10,000 respectively and GH¢ 1,000 and GH¢5,000 for females.

The group contends that “the above situation is appalling and not in the best interest of the party.”
They further stated that such actions are “calculated attempts to thwart the effort and the opportunity the party provides to encourage young, hardworking and qualified members to participate and deepen the democratic process and possibly attract other including people from the other side of the political divide.”
Further defending their petition on Eyewitness News, Paul DeRoy, a member of the NDC group said the extra GH¢5,000 being demanded from new entrants in the region is “unacceptable.”
This he said is because “we believe that an election is supposed to be a level playing field where everybody can get a fair play in the political arena. But when you allow somebody who has been serving as an MP for a long time and will pay less than someone who is now going to enter into the race is unfair.”
He further called on the leadership of the NDC to take immediate steps to overturn the decision of the Volta Regional Executives of the party in the region.
