The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has awarded Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Nathan Kofi Boakye for improving security at the University and its environs.

Dubbed:  “2014 Security Service Awards Parade,” the ceremony also saw 12 security personnel of the University, as well as the Manhyia District and KNUST Police Station Commands being honoured for their commitment to duty.

A citation presented to DCOP Boakye praised him for stepping up police patrols and intelligence work on campus and its environs to ensure the safety of students and property.

The citation acknowledged his keen interest in the security affairs of the KNUST and expressed the hope that the relationship existing between the two institutions would be further strengthened to enhance academic work.

The other award winners were presented with prizes ranging from certificates, citations to cash prizes in recognition of their selfless and dedicated services.

Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, said the authorities would not compromise on its responsibility to protect students at all times.

He said to ensure that the police react promptly to emergency situations, a number of security posts are being erected at vantage locations within the University environs.

Professor Ellis also mentioned that the KNUST’s Dean of Students had met hostel owners within the precincts of the University to discuss how best to address security challenges in the interest of the students.

Chief Superintendent Deborah Addison-Campbell, in-charge of the Manhyia District Police, who received the citation on behalf of the Regional Police Commander, said the police are grateful to the University and gave the assurance that the personnel are willing to work harder for sanity to prevail in the society.
