A former Chairman of the Electoral Commission(EC), Justice V.C.R.A.C Crabbe is asking for a national identity document which will correct the credibility issues of the current voters’ register.

The country’s political parties have been divided over the issue of a new voters’ register ahead of election 2016.

[contextly_sidebar id=”QhOvsNWiL6l7Rb3MIqOPhKQWElMQBley”]The flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akuffo Addo and his running mate, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia at a press conference held last week gave reasons to back their calls for a new national register which they say is bloated hence lacks credibility.

This was after Dr. Bawumia revealed that about 76,286 Togolese nationals have their names registered in Ghana’s voters’ register.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show however, Justice Crabbe said Ghana’s challenges will be resolved if the voters’ register is purged, rather than creating a new one.

“We have to take the National ID system very seriously. Perhaps if we solve that, everything will fall into place,” he said.
