A Non Governmental Organization called the Nor Foundation has presented a large quantity of learning materials to 44 needy but brilliant pupils in the Chanshegu community of the Kumbungu district in the Northern Region.

The founder, Nura Mohammed who has dual citizenship in Ghana and Benin said the intervention sought to encourage the beneficiaries to focus on their studies.
“I didn’t have it very easy growing up: I have been like them before, you go to school they will sack you for school fees: Even though the kids need more than we are giving them but at least we trying.”

According to her, the North Foundation in collaboration with its development partners has planned to rollout the project in more deprived communities in the region.

“I am looking at leaving Accra and doing same in other remote areas in the north.”

Nura Mohammed said her organization intended expanding education infrastructure in some identified deprived communities in the region.

“We will need a lot of support because in this community it won’t be bad if there is another school here because they have only one block which is From JHS one to JHS three.”

“The primary and the pre-school they have to go to other communities and that is not encouraging because if the distance from here to where they go to school is far they won’t go: so we are looking at starting a project like a school.”

One of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary hopefuls in the Kumbungu constituency, Abdallah Baba Ibrahim commended the NGO for the support.

He appealed to other NGO’s and philanthropists to support the area’s education sector.
