Chairman of the Black Stars management committee, George Afriyie, has denied claims that attribute coach Avram Grant’s prolonged stay away from the country to salary arrears owed him by the Ghana Football Association (GFA.)
Ghana is set to play Congo on the 1st of September in an exhibition match before taking on the Amavubi of Rwanda in Kigali four days later but coach Avram Grant is yet to arrive in the country with many attributing his reluctance to return to unpaid remunerations due him.
But George Afriyie who is Chairman of the management committee of the Black Stars says the Ghana Football Association has no outstanding salary issues with the former Chelsea boss and money was not Grant’s motivation for taking the Black Stars job.
“We have to be fair to Mr Grant because during the discussions to appoint him,he made very clear that his decision to coach the Black Stars had nothing to do with money. As far as I am concerned the Ghana Football Association does not owe the coach.,” Afriyie said on Citi Sports’ Sports Panorama on Friday.
Grant is expected to arrive in Ghana on Sunday before naming his team for the double header.
The game against Congo is meant to officially open a 60,000 capacity stadium purposely built for the hosting of the 2015 All Africa Games while the game against Rwanda is the second AFCON 2017 qualifier for the Black Stars after beating Mauritius 7-1 in Accra in June.
