The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) special revenue mobilization task force says its tax enforcement actions have yielded over GH¢12.3 million on spot collection within two weeks of operation.
Mr Theophilus Gaskin, Director of Operations for the task force, told the media that the amount was retrieved from 324 delinquent tax payers.
[contextly_sidebar id=”64bDbILtp6nxfpVF0Yj5FKjMlEaZbzwT”]He was speaking during an attachment action embarked on by the task force against some five offending companies, which together owed GH¢4.5 million in taxes.
The task force was to enforce compliance with tax laws and to get defaulting and potential taxpayers to honour their tax obligations.
The task force would be checking for the issuance of VAT/NHIL invoices by businesses, the filing of VAT/NHIL, Pay as You Earn, returns by the due dates, and the payment of any outstanding tax liabilities (debts) owed the GRA, among other things.
Mr Gaskin, who is also a Chief Revenue Officer, said the task force was embarking on a series of tax compliance activities, including massive debt collection, compliance with the self-assessment regime and the Value Added Tax laws.
He said the action of the task force has sent the appropriate signals throughout the country, leading to defaulters rushing to settle their outstanding tax liabilities.
The mandate of the task force would end in December by which time they would have helped to boost the revenue generation effort.
