Mr Erasmus Baidoo, Ashanti Regional Public Relations Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has denied that the company is deliberately using the power outage popularly called “dumsor” to sabotage government.

[contextly_sidebar id=”mvHMXemJ3VUNf7CzaghOluVY2fFhoJ3K”]Speaking at a public durbar at Asante Mampong in the Ashanti Region, to interact with end-users of electricity on problems relating to the current power rationing process in the region, he said the said ECG has no capacity to generate or transmit power and only distributes what the Volta River Authority produces and transmits to them by Ghana Grid Company Limited.

He attributed the current power rationing situation to the current water level of the Akosombo Dam which is a little above 237 feet and below the minimum operational level of 240 feet as well as the inconsistent supply of gas from Nigeria and the high cost of light crude oil.

Mr Kwaku Twum Barimah Boadu, Regional Commercial Manager of the Company, urged the public to desist from making illegal electrical connections as the company has set up a special task force to check such illegal acts.

Mr Emmanuel Tetteh Akimi, Regional Engineer, said the Company is undertaking a number of projects to improve electricity distribution in the region which is capital intensive and appealed to the public to pay their bills on time.

Nana Boakye Yiadom, Gyaasehene of Mampong Traditional area, who chaired the function, appealed to the company to expedite action on the Mampong sub-station to solve the unreliable water supply in the town.
