Reggie Rockstone, the legendary Ghanaian musician, founder of Hip-life music genre and entertainment entrepreneur, has sealed an investment partnership with Suba, the event based group photo-sharing app to become one of Africa’s first celebrity tech investors.  Rockstone will utilize his extensive fan base, social media following and industry network as a platform to generate exposure for the startup which launched in Ghana last September and has been identified as one of the Top 10 Best Apps from Africa.

“I am very engaged on social media and sharing photos digitally have become an integral part of mine and many people’s everyday lives. When I was first introduced to Suba I was very excited to know that it had been developed by young Ghanaians; a product with the potential to be adopted by people all over the world. I am always seeking innovative business opportunities and feel technology is the future so it was an easy decision to become an investment partner in Suba,” says Rockstone whose recent hit song “Selfie” featuring actor, Idris Elba celebrates the “selfie” popular photo sharing trend.

Suba App

Suba is available for web, iOS and Android and allows users at social gatherings and in groups to see and share photos in one central album making photos easily accessible and shareable by everyone at the event in real-time.  Suba has been used by event organizers around the world to manage photo sharing including the Oxford University Africa Innovate Conference (UK), Meltwater Corporate Kickoff (Miami,USA), Mobile West Africa (Nigeria), and Chale Wote Street Arts Festival (Ghana).

“We are huge fans of Reggie and admire how he has managed to build and maintain his brand for over 20 years which is very rare for an artist. We believe having Reggie has a partner and leveraging the power of his celebrity and the entertainment industry will catapult Suba to the next level,” says Nelson Klutse, one of West Africa’s’ leading iOS developers who co-founded the company with fellow technologist, Eric Hackman at the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) Incubator in 2014.

With this partnership, Rockstone is on the path of international artists such as Bono, Jessica Alba, Nas, and Ashton Kutcher who have successfully invested in tech startups that have since become household names including Facebook, Skype, and Square.

“Africa is now being considered the “mobile continent” with internet use on mobile phones being predicted to increase double the rate of growth in the rest of the world. This is a huge opportunity for Suba and yes we’re shooting for the global market but a major focus for us will be to become the “Instagram” of Africa that is locally owned which will definitely serve as inspiration to a generation of young people and aspiring entrepreneurs,” adds Rockstone who will formally announce his investment partnership with Suba on 5th August at a press conference in Accra at the La Villa Boutique Hotel.
