Producers of the Heritage Theatre Series are set to stage a re-run of Wogbɛ Jɛkɛ – The Birth Of A Nation on Saturday August 22 at the National Theatre, Accra.
Wogbɛ Jɛkɛ: The Birth Of A Nation, tells the story of Ghana from ancient times to 1957 in a two hour theatrical spectacle of dance, music and drama. The production has a rich display of Ghana’s culture and history, featuring the legendary stories of historical personalities such as Ndewura Jakpa, Yaa Asantewaa, Agokoli, Kwame Nkrumah among many others.
The rerun has been necessitated after a successful outing from on July 4 and 5 at the same venue, which got amazing reviews and requests from the general public for more.
The producers are sparing no expense at making this an utterly breath taking production. With a cast and crew of about 150 people made up of dancers, singers, actors, poets, and instrumentalists, this is certainly going to be one of the biggest theatre productions in the country.
The Series is Written and produced by one of Ghana’s outstanding young poets, Chief Moomen, and directed BBC award winning playwright, Anima Misa Amoah and Abdul Karim Hakib, a lecturer at the School of Performing Arts, UG. It is choreographed by international choreographers, Sena Atsuga and Baffour Awuah, a fellow of the Choreomundus International, Norway and supported by a team of theatre professionals from the School Of Performing Arts, UG.
The production is on Saturday 22nd August July at the National Theatre with two showings at 4pm and 8pm.
