All set for Vodafone Homowo boxing tourney on Sunday

All is set for the Vodafone Homowo boxing tournament slated for the weekend in Ga Mashie in Accra.

The tournament will be held from Sunday August 16 to Monday August 17, 2015 at Mantse Agbona in Accra.

Over 80 boxers drawn from various gyms in Ga Mashie  and its environs will take part in the exercise.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, the Technical Director of the Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA), Ofori Asare explained that the boxers will be competing in 8 categories including heavy and bantam weights.

He said there were various prizes for the boxers including gold, silver and bronze medals adding that best gym and best clubs will also be awarded.

Ofori Asare further urged the boxers to exhibit high sense of professionalism in all the bouts.

For his part, Martison Obeng Agyei, the Head of Mass Market for Vodafone, headline sponger of the event, said: “we are proud to sponsor this year’s Homowo boxing event considering the fact that we have been part the festival for years.”

“We also appreciate the level of passion and talents in the area and hope to ensure that more potentials are developed to become future champions following our support,” he said adding that “we expect the boxers to give out their best.”
