The Minister of Health, Alex Segbefia is blaming politicians for the impasse between government negotiators and the Ghana Medical Association (GMA).

“Once in a while we politicians wade into things that we are not supposed to, this then creates a rippling effect when people demand things they believe their colleagues have been granted, things that the government can’t afford…let’s follow the rules and regulations, let those who are mandated to deal with negotiations at certain levels deal with them”, he said.
Doctors in government hospitals are currently on a strike after negotiations over conditions of service broke down.
Their action has seen the withdrawal of some essential services including attending to emergency cases.
The Minister made these remarks when he toured some government hospitals to assess the impact of the strike.
