Chief Executive of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission George Smith Graham has denied claims by sections of striking workers that government currently has reviewed the conditions of service for the Ghana Police Service.
[contextly_sidebar id=”kaOZvNgHiguGbYx0M65SHzjkM2P7z9vZ”]Media reports last week suggested that government had reviewed the conditions of service of the Police, which is believed to have triggered the recent industrial action by health sector workers.
But speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, Mr. Graham said it was rather a Police regulation that was issued by government.
“We all know in the country today that we are in compulsory arbitration with the state attorneys. It is not correct that we’ve sat down with the state attorneys and given them any conditions of service. The other point is that if they are talking about the Police service, government has not sat down with any Police service to do anything.”
He said “what we saw is a Police regulation, that is an LI issued by Parliament. We noticed that there were certain allowances that are supposed to be in categories 2 and 3 that have been captured in the Police regulation. So when we noticed that, we quickly drew the attention of Parliament to it. Even as we speak, Parliament is waiting for attorney general to submit a proposal to review them.”
