A former Northern Regional Minister has predicted that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will win more seats in the Northern Region during the 2016 general elections.

Prince Imoro Andani asserted that majority of northerners are dissatisfied with President John Dramani Mahama’s performance, hence his prediction.

[contextly_sidebar id=”UIzTe95Qwy9lxJ6wdkkHju6ZrMJ4ijFI”]The NPP during the 2012 elections appreciated from three to 10 seats in the Northern Region.

Ahead of the 2016 general elections, the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has served notice of wrestling the 10 seats.

But Prince Imoro Andani is convinced the NPP will rather win additional Parliamentary seats.

“Certainly we will do better than the 10 seats because everything shows: what has happened differently that they think they can take the seven seats?”

“Those districts are not better: I am working with rural farmers and they cannot even afford fertilizer and that is the rural language: the cost of maize today is more hundred cedis and how are you talking about a bag of maize selling above hundred cedis in our polygamous society that the head of the family head has never saved hundred cedis a year.”

He added, “Even the rural electrification we have it but a lot of them are living without light because they cannot afford it: National Health Insurance is more pro poor but are people accessing the medical care?”

“So what are they going to tell the rural folks in the northern region to take the seven seats? That is the question they should be asking themselves.”

Prince Imoro Andani said the party will change its campaign strategy and concentrate on rural communities.

“We have to increase our connectivity with the rural folks: there is the need for us to understand the game NDC has played over the years: Yes we can talk about devaluation of the cedi, talk about the appreciation of the Dollar against the cedi but that is not what the ordinary Ghanaian understands so is about time we get closer to them and share the issues with them.”
