The Ashanti Regional leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday inaugurated a Youth Working Committee to spearhead the Party’s agenda of securing massive votes in the Region in the 2016 general election, at a ceremony in Kumasi.

The Committee, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Ernest Brogya Genfi, the Regional Youth Organizer, is mandated to coordinate activities of the party’s Youth Wing, as well as all identifiable youth groups to achieve its objectives.

[contextly_sidebar id=”YhEcP0g6GvCLSbzf8LpSOryDf15EgxSQ”]It would also be expected to propagate government policies, development programmes and projects within the vision of the NDC manifesto.

“Empowering the Youth Wing for a Successful Implementation of Operation One Million Votes in Election 2016”, was the theme for the programme which coincided with a three-day capacity-building workshop organized for the NDC Regional Youth Wing.

Its target is the Youth Organizers and their deputies in all the 47 constituencies, as well as a cross section of the party’s leadership.

Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, a National Vice-Chairman of the NDC, said the party had since 2009 delivered on its campaign promises, citing various development projects being undertaken by the government to improve the living conditions of the masses.

“The President Mahama-led Administration is leaving no stone unturned to address the needs of the poor, and we will continue to also bring development to the door-step of the people”, he emphasized.

On education, he said the government had rolled out a programme to construct 200 community schools, provide mattresses and bunk beds, free school uniforms and sandals, and other educational materials and teaching aids to facilitate teaching and learning.

Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo said the government was upgrading Airports, citing the Kumasi, Sunyani and Tamale Airports, which aimed at enhancing the transportation sector.

The National NDC Vice-Chairman affirmed support of the party’s leadership for activities of the Youth Wing, urging them to work hard to better the chances of the party in next year’s elections.

Mr. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, a Minister of State at the Presidency, said the success of the NDC was dependent on the youth and as such they must close their ranks and work together to benefit the party.

Mr. Peter Anarfi-Mensah, the Regional Minister, said the party’s target of securing one million votes in the Region was achievable, and, therefore, tasked them to be focused.
