Excellentia Qualitas in Opportunite (EQO); an Italian renewable energy company has earmarked some water bodies in the Volta region for the constructions of mini-hydropower plants to boost the current energy capacity of Ghana.

This was announced in Ho at a meeting for heads of the various departments in the region.

She said the Volta region is endowed with essential natural resources that must be harnessed.

The Project according to her, would also provide jobs for the people in the locality.

“The region is endowed with important natural resources and it is important to invite investors to unearth these resources” she said.

Helen Adjoa Ntosu therefore thanked the Paramount Chief of Asogli Traditional Area, Togbe Afede XIV for facilitating the project and his continuous efforts in wooing investors into the region.

As part of the project, the installed turbines would generate hydroelectricity to feed the National Grid. The proposed sites include the Dayi River, Wli Water Falls,Dodo Papasi and Menu River.

Also in the list are Nuboi River,Tsatsadu River,Wawa River and Likpe Kukrantumi Dam.

The leader of the Italian delegation and the representative of Togbe Afede ,Mr Appiah Kufour insisted that project would be environmentally friendly.

The Italian investors  said the project will be completed in 12 months.

The Volta Region is most likely to have the best prospects for hydro-power generation considering the number of waterfalls and other water bodies in the region.

A significant land area of the region falls within the Volta River Basin with the River flowing through the valleys in the region; a landscape suitable for hydro-power generation.
