The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is hoping to register 1.5 million Ghanaians as it embarks on massive biometric membership registration drive.
The the party has already registered over 500,000 members in biometric registration exercise which commenced a week ago.

He said “we’ve been registering for sometime now, so we’ve gotten a sizable number of our party members registered. We are doing just around one million members now and the breakdown is roughly that Volta Region is leading by over 150,000; they are getting close to 200,000.”
Northern Region is approaching 150,000, followed closely by the Brong Ahafo with 120,000 and then Western Region around 100,000. Eastern region is also around 100,000 and Ashanti Region is around 100.000, according to the General Secretary.
Asiedu Nketia said they anticipate that the number will double in the shortest possible time because the party has fixed a closing date for the exercise.
“So overall we are targeting 1.5 million of registered members who want to discharge their obligations and responsibilities as full members of the party.”
The NDC has adopted some measures to increase it’s membership base nationwide especially in the stongholds of the opposition NPP.
The NDC early this year launched “1 million votes for Mahama” in the Ashanti region and Agenda 50/50 in the Eastern Region with the hope of increasing the party’s votes in the two regions in the 2016 general election.
