General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has charged those who were defeated in last Sundays parliamentary primaries to accept the decision of the voters in good faith and rally behind the victors in the elections.
[contextly_sidebar id=”imR2JfmN13d8ZJPQHPgX5Kqf5S5n3vZE”]This comes on the back of calls from Adjei Tawiah an aspirant in the Klottey Korle constituency for the elections to be cancelled and re-run.
Nii Adjei Tawiah and another aspirant, lawyer Philip Addion boycotted the election last Sunday citing “lack of transparency in the process.”
They also accuse the party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong of “rushing” the primaries despite several concerns that were raised.
But in an interview with Citi News the General Secretary asked the losers to be charitable enough to accept what he calls the majority’s decision.
“Elections are tough, during competition; it generates a lot of heat. Toes of one or two people will be stepped on as part of politics. We will always come around, we will need a lot of diplomacy, tact and cajoling people for them to understand and for them to be charitable enough to accept the majority’s view. Majority is about majority rule so we should respect the majority’s mandate. None of us can impose ourselves on the people of our party and the various constituencies know who they want to represent them,” he added.
Kwabena Agyepong further explained that prior to the Klottey Korle’s primary, “everything was ready, the ballot papers printed and the statement of poll had been out in those constituencies, everything was set for July 25th. Except that the NPP members took the case to court. As soon as the court decided on the matter and dismissed those applications we were then at liberty to go ahead.”
