The National First Vice Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Ofosu Ampofo has described as absurd the New Patriotic Party’s call for an audit of the new voter register.

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyepong earlier called for an audit of the voters register which in their opinion is ridden with anomalies.

[contextly_sidebar id=”FWZOjNMasFHgk2bawxlul6XaQPuGur0p”]He said the only effective way to ensure a free and fair elections in 2016 is for the voters register to be reviewed.

The registration exercise gives only those who are 18 and above the power to register but the party’s General Secretary recalled that in the lead up to the 2012, “the Electoral Commission (EC) published in the newspapers the photos of under-aged people who were on the register and continue to be on the register.”

“There were clearly under-aged people who were in the register in 2012 and who are still in the register.”

However Ofosu Ampofo who disagrees with Agyepong said every political party has been involved in the scrutiny of the 2016’s voters register and said that is the most credible voters register he has ever seen.

He was addressing NDC youth organizers and their deputies from all the 47 constituencies in the Ashanti region at a 3-day capacity building workshop on the theme : “empowering the youth wing for a successful implementation of Operation 1 million votes in election 2016″  in their bid to ensure 1 million votes from the Ashanti region come December 2016.”
