Don’t create platform to discuss same-sex marriage – KNUST VC

The Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor William Otto Ellis, has waded into the recent controversy surrounding same-sex marriage and urged Ghanaians not to create any platform for the discussion of “such abominable issues”.

He said homosexuality was offensive, unacceptable and criminal in Ghana and should remain as such, and warned intellectuals and so-called human rights activists not to hide behind human rights and call for respect for such “disgusting acts”.

Prof. Ellis was addressing the annual national campus community congress of the Deeper Life Bible Church at the church’s camp ground at Brofoyedru in the Ashanti Region yesterday.

More than 6000 youth across the country are attending the five-day congress.

“I don’t think there is even the necessity to dialogue about this insensitive act, not to talk of tolerating it in our country,” Prof. Ellis stated, and added that various Christian and political leaders had, over the years, stood firmly against same-sex marriage, a move which must be sustained by all well-meaning Ghanaians.

He expressed worry that very soon some well-educated Christians would put their beliefs and the teachings of the Bible aside and join hands with some so-called experts and human rights activists to advance the cause of  same-sex marriage in Ghana.

Power 2015
The National Overseer of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor John Boham, called on the youth to embrace the power of the Lord, adding that through divine power one was fit enough to overcome all challenges confronting humanity.

He said God would continue to shelter His followers with wisdom and give them the power to say no to deviant attitudes such as adultery, bribery and corruption, and same-sex marriages.

Speaking on the theme, “Experiencing the Power for Victorious Living”, he cautioned the youth not to be tempted to engage in discussions about same-sex marriage.
