The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah will today meet the leadership of the Government and Hospital Pharmacists Association (GHOSPA) over their plans to strike.
[contextly_sidebar id=”cSPyjmjLNTRuN2eYZ88RQxn30QtD0NjU”]The Pharmacists have served notice of a nationwide strike beginning Friday over what they say are discrepancies on their placement on the Single Spine Salary Structure.
The meeting is a seen as a last minute intervention by government to prevent the strike, which will bring health care delivery in the country to a halt following a strike by doctors.
Speaking to Citi News, Vice Chairman of GHOSPA, Kwabena Agyeman Badu said the meeting will determine their next line of actions.
“A meeting has been scheduled today, based on what will happen, we will be in a better position to tell our members whether to strike or not. But we are just looking at issues which date back to four years ago where we started our strike, but its principally about our base structure and single spine market premium,” he added.
GHOSPA had argued that despite a directive from the Chief of Staff to the Finance Ministry to address their grievances, the Ministry has failed to meet their demands.
“It is regrettable that since 8th August 2014 when the Chief of Staff directed the Ministry of Finance to implement the road map for resolving the salary grievances of pharmacists in the public sector, following a Sub Cabinet Committee report. However the Finance Ministry has demonstrated a clear unwillingness to carry out the directive,” a statement from GHOSPA added.
