A Deputy Interior Minister, James Agalga has admonished local peacekeepers in troubled Bimbila Township to be professional in enforcing the law.

He insisted that they should be neutral and desist from excesses during their operations.

The Deputy Minister’s plea followed some Bimbila residents’ complaint of brutalization and injustice by some security personnel during the curfew hours.

At a meeting with the local peacekeepers in Bimbila, James Agalga implored them to abstain from compromising with lawbreakers.

He also commended them for their patriotism. “We know is not easy you have had to make a lot of sacrifice and this type of sacrifice is not a joke at all and therefore this we want to commend you for showing professionalism: we are aware that ever since you were deployed in your numbers you have managed to restore relative peace and calm to the area,”
James Agalga urged them to be extra vigilant. “We know that tensions are still very high and so we will continue to encourage and entreat you to be extra vigilant, look out for those who have the mindset to foment trouble in Bimbila and apprehend them because we must restore lasting peace to Bimbila.”

He lamented, “The Bimbila crisis has been recurring over a long period of time and is not in anybody’s interest.”
Chairman of the Northern Regional Security Council, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna pledged government’s support to make their operations smooth.

“All the necessary logistics are been taken care of to make you a bit comfortable: we know you cannot be comfortable in a war situation but the least that we can make you be a bit comfortable we have to and we want to assure that everything is under control.”

The regional Minister tasked them to respect authority on the line of duty.

“We want to thank you for the good work and please be professionals: you don’t come from here, you don’t take sides, you don’t make friends: make sure that you go by the command and do what you are expected to be doing.”

Following the deadly clashes which claimed 19 lives, a large contingent of police, military, Prison officers and personnel of other security agencies were deployed to the troubled Bimbila Township.
