The MTN FA Cup Committee says it will wait for the decision of the competition’s Disciplinary Committee before determining the team that faces Kotoko in the semi-finals.

Kotoko were given a bye after AshantiGold refused to turn up for the quarter final match between the two teams at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday 13th April, 2014.

Subsequently, it emerged that Article 9 Clause Section 5 of the GFA rules stated a club that withdraws from a competition will be by the last club that was eliminated.

That rule would pitch Kotoko against Mighty Jets, which was the last team to be eliminated and they were beaten by AshGold.

However, the MTN FA Cup committee, speaking on Citi Sports’midweek sports show, “Half Time”, expressed its wish to await the ruling since it was also unclear on the matter.

“We are as lost as everybody is at the moment. We are not lawyers, so we must wait for the ruling because in as much as there is the Article 9 Clause Section 5, I know of other provisions which state things that are contrary.

We have to be patient and wait for the appropriate legal body to tell us what the next step is and we will act accordingly”, said Kurt Okraku, who is the Secretary of the MTN FA Cup Committee.

The MTN FA Cup is scheduled to end with a final May 25 but according to Okraku, the date could be affected due to the time taken for the ruling to be made.

‘’There is the potential for the competition to be shifted round a bit if those sitting on this AshGold take a lot of time.

If there is no waiting time for this, we will get on with the competition and we will be in a situation to work within the stipulated period as we are in a World Cup year.”
