Mahama unhappy about Bimbila carnage – Interior Minister

The President, John Dramani Mahama has condemned the deadly clashes in Bimbila in the Northern Region which claimed 19 lives.

He has therefore called for ceasefire for government’s transformational agenda to flourish in the Nanumba North District of the Northern Region.

Deputy Interior Minister, Hon. James Agalga conveyed the President’s message to the Regent and elders of the Nanun Traditional Area on Tuesday.

He pleaded with the Regent to dispassionately reach out to all residents in Bimbila the township to solve the problem amicably.

He said the curfew hours will be relaxed when there are clear signals that tension is minimal.

The Deputy Minister and the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna led a team to the troubled Bimbila on a fact finding mission.

The team after visiting the local abattoir met with the feuding factions and the Regent behind closed doors to attempt ironing out their differences.

Some of the residents appealed to government to relax the curfew hours.

At an earlier briefing, the District Chief Executive for the Nanumba North District Assembly, Mohammed Ibn Abass revealed that tension was still high in Bimbila.

According to him, the residents in the area were highly suspicious of one another but gave the assurance that the situation was under control.
