The Ministry of Employment has promised that salaries of the aggrieved junior doctors will be paid on Wednesday.
The Minister, Haruna Iddrisu made the promise on Monday, after the junior doctors stormed the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) to demand the payment of their salaries, which has delayed for 11 months.
The doctors, numbering about 35 picketed on the premises of the CAGD over the issue.
Various appeals made by the doctors to the sectors involved have yielded no positive results.
Earlier, the Deputy Minister, Dr. Victor Bampoe and officials from the CAGD had a closed door meeting with the leaders of the junior doctors.
Dr. Bampoe assured to resolve the grievances of the doctors within the shortest possible time.
Addressing the media after meeting, the spokesperson for the 91 junior doctors, Dr. Nana Kissi Atafah mentioned that a few promises were made, “we’ve gotten them to put it down and hopefully by Friday, our concerns will be addressed,” but after conveying the promises to his colleagues, they were unhappy about it.
“From what we have seen so far, membership is not very, very happy with the assurances given,” he said adding that “we actually saw the payroll for a lot of people but the bottom line is, we being here is no fault of ours because we are the victims of systemic failure.”
