There were broad smiles Thursday on the faces of parties in the suit filed against microfinance company, Melbond, by a taxi driver, Fio Yohannes after the latter withdrew the case following the intervention of former President Jerry Rawlings.

[contextly_sidebar id=”XM2u4DlS7M6iWDahauHcpQW5ZzVv0zIZ”]The Fast Track High Court presided by Justice Robin Batu, was told that the parties had reached an amicable settlement and that the plaintiff had filed a notice to withdraw the case.

Justice Batu readily granted the request and struck out the case as having been withdrawn without liberty to reapply.

The decision sent the parties – Fio Yohannes and his counsel Madam Hanifa Yahaya; Dinah Colecraft, Deputy Managing Director in Charge of Operations at Melbond and her counsel John David Merson; and Mr. Kobina Andoh Amoakwa, representing former President Rawlings – into smiles as they filed out of the courtroom.

The terms of settlement were not disclosed but Madam Hanifa told the court that the parties were satisfied and expressed gratitude of the parties and Rawlings to the court.

The court last week asked the former president to mediate the breach of contract case in which he was supporting the complainant.

He accepted the request and told the court he would give it a try.

Mr. Kobina Andoh told Graphiconline that the parties met only once to decide the case and the former president was particularly happy for the respect accorded his office and the submission of the parties to his intervention.
