The Northern Regional Security Council (RECSEC) has raised alarm over the proliferation of arms in troubled Bimbila Township.

It is against this backdrop the Ministry of Interior and RECSEC on Wednesday held a joint meeting to tackle the situation.

Northern Regional Minster, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna told Citi News RECSEC and the Ministry of Interior intended meeting the feuding factions in Bimbila.

[contextly_sidebar id=”9yUvLaAtcQiSepSzt2JS03Jzia4rxZ7l”]“We are meeting on Wednesday together with ministry of interior: they will be here for us to have a joint DISEC and RECSEC meeting to assess the situation, we will visit the area and also engage the people.”

Alhaji Limuna appealed to the worrying factions to use dialogue to resolve their differences.

“I am just using this medium to appeal to them that they should please use civil channels of resolving this matter but not resorting to the use of guns.”

He said RECSEC reinforced security presence in Bimbila Township and its environs.

He tasked security operatives in the area to intensify their surveillance for weapons that are smuggled into the Nanun Traditional Area.

“We have observed that there is proliferation of guns in that area and we are putting in measures and steps to see how we can retrieve them.”

“It is when people have guns and with a little bit of provocation they go that far: without the guns they will not go that far and so we are hoping and praying that they will listen to us.”

It is recalled that renewed chieftaincy dispute between loyalists of the Bimbila Regent and some aggrieved butchers in the area resulted in the death of 19 people.
